Winter Pruning
A female kiwifruit vine is trimmed to maintain order, spacing, and light accessibility. Older fruiting canes are removed, leaving fresh ones growing from the base of the previous year’s canes, spaced every 20-30cm along the permanent main branch. New replacement fruiting canes are cut to a manageable length and connected to the support wires to force the growth of fruiting side branches the following season.
Canes that are diseased, damaged, twisted, crossing, or rubbing on other canes are removed.
