February 1, 2020
Gary is a Master Class Kiwifruit Grower with a Passion for Success.
I had the pleasure of meeting Gary during a Zespri tour in 2019. From the moment we met, it was clear that we had a connection and I knew that I wanted him to be a part of my kiwifruit orchard team in Japan. My instincts proved to be right, as Gary’s expertise and dedication transformed my struggling orchard into a thriving success.
Gary’s first visit to Japan was a turning point for my orchard. He carefully evaluated the conditions and provided a clear plan of action for improvements. Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and the lack of shelter, Gary was committed to seeing my orchard succeed. With his wise advice and constant support, my plants fully recovered within a year, and I was able to harvest a successful crop with large, high-quality fruits.
Gary’s passion for kiwifruit and his drive to succeed is unmatched. His knowledge and commitment have made all the difference, and I am grateful for all he has done for my orchard. I am eager to continue working with Gary and expanding my orchard under his supervision.
Gary’s expertise extends to the orchard layout and male/female placement, which are crucial elements for a successful kiwifruit orchard. He recommends a 4.5x4m layout with 7m between the deadman and the first post, with one plant close to each. He suggests building 3m leaders on both sides to maximize the space and using the Bounty rootstock with males planted every two rows, starting in row 2 with two leaders and a male.
I am confident that with Gary’s guidance and expertise, my orchard will continue to flourish and produce high-quality kiwifruit for many years to come.
